When you’re feeling overwhelmed, it can be hard to fit in one more thing, so this is a short relaxation exercise. After the introduction, the exercise takes less than 10 minutes (it is about 11 minutes in total with the introduction).

Take some time now to set aside just 10 minutes. During this time, focus just on relaxing. If you are able, silence or put away your phone, computer, and any other distractions that can interfere with relaxing. If the device you are using to listen to this audio has a “do not disturb” setting, you may want to turn it on for the duration of this relaxation exercise.

Now find a quiet space where you can sit or lie down. Even a chair in the corner of a room will work.

Relaxation for Feeling Overwhelmed Script

Sit or lie down, and close your eyes. Take a moment to just breathe.

When you are feeling overwhelmed, your attention might be pulled in many directions. For these few minutes, be fully present here, in this moment.

Breathe. Rest.

For now, let your worries go. The things you are responsible for will still be there later, and you will return to your duties better prepared to handle them effectively after taking some time to relax.

For a moment, just notice how you are feeling. Observe. You don’t need to try to change anything, or do anything. Just be aware.

Notice how you feel physically. Start at the top of your head, noticing how your head and face feel. Move your awareness down, noticing each aea of your body. Noticing your neck…

Shoulders…

Chest and back…

Arms and hands…

Stomach…

Hips…

Legs and feet.

Feel your clothing against your skin. Now feel the surface where you are sitting. Notice the feeling of the air touching your face. Feel your breathing.

Notice your body as a whole. Observe.

Now let’s pay attention to how you are feeling mentally and emotionally.
